Conservation Status: LC (Least Concern), 2018
Digital C and Archival Inkjet Prints
Plastic toy animal figures are posed in various playful positions of action and interaction and suspended upon a groundless and ambiguous backdrop. In their postures and through their gaze, the overtly artificial representative objects in their state of display intend to serve as speculations on the condition of the living versions they represent. Each of the represented animal species are currently designated as “least concern” on the international conservation status “Red List” which charts the status of biological species on a scale from secure to extinct. The animal objects are plastic and therefore pliable. Though not physically available in its abstraction, each referent animal may briefly present itself beyond its simulated limits, proposing something that on the surface is hidden. Playful encounter with the imitations invites an engagement and a glimpse of the reality implied beyond the toys’ facade.
