Look Alive!, 2017
Digital Inkjet Prints and Video
This series contemplates the taxidermic representations produced of animals in natural history diorama settings. Some of the tools and materials utilized in re-animating the appearance of animals through taxidermy and creating their artificial environments are intimated. The cropped views of animals’ bodies highlight the processes of simulation, replication and the resulting isolation of details observers may single out. A guiding thought to the project is that through its image the actual referent animal may be “seen” to simultaneously persist and recede.
